Fic Thief

First bit written by the illustrious [personal profile] finch

Ruby knew it was a risk, continuing to go to work. Half a dozen supers with healing powers had gone missing already, some of them in civvies. But she was a nurse, and nurses don't just stop going to work because it's dangerous.

When she woke up, she was only disoriented for a minute. Across from her was a middle-aged woman she recognized as one half of supervillain team Mary Sand and Wanda.

"I need you to heal me," Mary said.

Ruby held her head steady to stop the spinning. "What's wrong?"

"Cancer," she answered, spitting the word. "My doctor said it was inoperable. I don't believe him. Can you heal me?"

For a moment Ruby just stared )

Thanksgiving

I am reminded why I have chosen to work every holiday for the last several years.

I love my family. I do. Really.

I just love them so much more when I'm in another state.

Happy Halloween

I think I know the REAL reason people wear masks for this holiday.

omfg.

Just. The ER. And it's not even 3pm yet. ;;

I swear some year I'm going to come dressed as something terrifying.
Like an IRS agent.

Yeah, no.

So some friends of mine think I should join their group cosplay for Halloween.
They want to be Trinity Basic.

Yeah.

That's not awkward.

Visiting Hours

Solitary confinement has been lifted due to good behavior.
I am now allowed to receive visitors.

Yay!

Still not sure when they're gonna let me go home. :P

So bored )

WTF?

What the hell was that?

Not Dead

I'm okay. Still benched/desked for the foreseeable future (har har- no I haven't injured my sense of humor, it's always been this bad).

Not sure when they'll let me go home. Gotta run the gauntlet before they'll let me out of here. Foo.

No flowers, please. Allergies.
Also, Misty would like to remind all you nice people that really, the casseroles are unnecessary. My daughter, however, says pizza is permissible.

Good News

Ray's awake.

Well, he isn't NOW, but he finally woke up earlier this afternoon.
He's still groggy, disoriented, and has one mother of a hangover, but it looks like he'll be okay.

Dunno how long they'll keep him here, but it's probably going to be the rest of the week at least.

Update

So as many of you know, Ray had an Episode.
This was a big one.

Patch and Eddy assure me he's "Stable" right now. We expect him to be at the hospital for the next couple of days, probably the rest of the week.

Outside of that...we don't know. He hasn't woken up yet.

I'm not 100% sure what happened. Apparently it was some sort of training exercise gone wrong? Anyone with actual facts concerning this may feel free to fill me in.

Good thoughts/prayers appreciated.

We don't need any Jell-O or casseroles just yet, thanks. <3

Panic Button Pressed

Guys, I'll meet you at the hospital if you're not there already.

Sophie, go to Aunt Emily's for now. I'll come get you later.

I would like to apologize for....

  • 'Downsizing' 4 floors of HSA offices.
  • 'Redecorating' several more offices.
  • 'Relocating' marketing to the lawn.
  • Everything in the vicinity of Ray.
  • Especially Mark's headache.
  • Those clocks never being right again.
  • The state of the union.
  • The shape of the Universe.

If anyone needs me for some reason, try the usual blanket fort, because my phone appears to be a throwback now and I'm not sure if you'll be calling me or eroding the space-time continuum by screwing with the past.

Everyone carry on, nothing to see here.

Know When to Hold 'Em

It had been forever since he'd unearthed the set of playing cards. He'd bought them a hundred years ago at a convention. A hundred years ago translating in this case to "shortly out of college". Not one to worry about keeping things mint-in-the-box, he'd opened them and looked through them, but had never actually used the things. The character key was written in Japanese, and even Mark had had a hard time with it. That was alright, he knew who all the characters were, and what they were like. He'd been reading translated Tezuka manga and watching badly dubbed imports for years. Hell, "Astro Boy" had been on American TV when he was younger. Funny the things that made their way over.

Know when to fold 'em )

Fall Cleaning

It's that time again. I have waged war against the infamous Junk Drawer in my desk at work. I found quite a few things I thought I'd lost. Among them, these.

I had THOUGHT Sophie had indefinitely borrowed them but apparently not.

Yay! Now I can play solitaire OFF my computer!

Also, Mark? I found that set of chopsticks you were looking for. The ones in the green holster.

Dylan, I think this is YOUR copy of Sci-Fi Anonymous. I already have a copy on my coffee table.

Alex, I think every towel we collectively own is currently in my office. They're all clean, but they ought to be redistributed.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY, CAMPERS!

Okay, based on everything I've seen so far, I'm pretty sure I had--at some point--a bag of green dice and so I'm pretty sure one of you have it sitting around somewhere.

I could really really REALLY use them. Really. It's for, um, work.

Yes, work.

Unknown

There wasn't much to Mrs. Lewis. She probably hadn't been tall, even in her youth. Perhaps 4'10" and maybe eighty pounds, she lay dwarfed in her hospital bed. Although over ninety and in failing health, her wispy white hair was handsomely curled around a smiling face as wrinkled as a dried apple. A crocheted bed jacket of pastel blue covered her narrow shoulders.

Blind, but not yet deaf, she looked up at a gentle knock at the door. Since Mrs. Lewis got few visitors, it was more than likely Dylan. Setting the blood pressure gauge aside, Kate crossed the floor to let him in.

"Is that you, Julian?" Mrs. Lewis' voice was quavering and reedy, yet strong. Milky blue eyes searched the room for her visitor. "Clara's here, come and say hello."

So.

Crazy Old Lady (TM) in the long-term care unit.

I was pinch hitting since one of the hospice nurses was on vacation. COL is usually very sweet, and tends to call everyone by the name of somebody she used to know when she was younger. I think I heard "Clara! I haven't seen you in a dog's age!" about 15 times while I was helping her today.

She then wanted to know if those nice young men in uniform would be back again. I wasn't sure what she meant. We did have a Wounded Warrior thing about a week ago, but to the best of my knowledge none of them came up here, and they were all in civvies.

I know she was around for WWII, so I asked her if she meant her husband and his unit. She said "No, Clara, they all had masks on." I asked her if she meant gas masks. She says "No, like the Lone Ranger".

...

O-KAY THEN.

Now I need to double-check with the nurse's station to make sure none of the "Capes For Kids" (you know, the ones that dress up like Batman and Ninja Turtles) crew wandered up here to say hello before I commence freaking out. >>;

New Things

So. Some things.

Em and I were talking about doing the roommate thing.

Because sleeping on your brother's futon is not the same thing. At all.

It's been a while, and a lot has happened since then, but...it's time to move on, yanno? Do something different. I've been by myself for a long time now, and while I like having a quiet place, sometimes it's lonely.

Nothing's been fully decided yet, but I have been cruising the internets looking for two bedroom apartments.

...unless we wanna make it three? *hopeful*

I could care less if the team ever gets off the ground again, but I'd sure love to have my best friends back in my life full-time. That's one part of the past that I think we can bring with us into the future.

Awkward post is awkward.

D:

I just woke up 5 hours late for work sporting last night's smudged eyeliner, no phone, and a vague sense of dread and deja vu.

What did I do last night??? Who was I with??? Like I'm not a Party Person and I haven't even been drinking--that much--and all I remember is feeling guilty about having a night off alternating with boredom and a wish for a happening social life.

... Where's my wallet?

Nan always told us we'd get kidnapped by faeries but I think it may have really happened.

I'm so screwed. ;_;

P.S. Dyl, you need a more comfortable couch.

Energy Drinks WTF

So I accidentally drank my daughter's Red Bull. I thought it was Coke, honest. All I saw was a red can.

Oh gawd.

It's like being drunk and high at once.

I will be firmly attached to the ceiling if you need me.

Eid Mubarak!

It was a little late, but I had the best, most appropriate gift for Eid.

Though I hesitate to mention it, for many reasons, but... long story short, I finally had my restrictions lifted and I am no longer classified as a supervillain.

Well. Isn't that sweet of them?

Now I can really travel again. No more bus for me, haha.

Alhamdulillah!
